The 2016 edition was proud to have the prestigious patronage of the Italian Senate, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Police Force, the National Youth Agency, the Region of Lazio and the Department of Sport in Rome; in the sphere of sport the patronage of CONI and of the Italian Rugby Federation. There were over 10,000 present at the event, over and above which there was the circulation of information (invitations, results, sponsors) TV broadcasting, Radio diffusion, newspapers, local magazines, specialised newspapers, match programmes about the tournament and web sites. The teams competed to win the 15th Roma Seven Cup.

Once again it was the great South African 7 team which won the 15th Roma Seven Cup, applauded by the large crowd of rugby enthusiasts present in the Acqua Acetosa Stadium on Saturday 11th June 2016. South Africans with Werner Kok, world rugby seven 2015 best player and co. under the skilful guidance of the ex-Springbok Marius Schoemann, arrived at the final game after a thrilling semi-final won (22 –14) against the Seven Kings of Rome. The Roma Seven guest team, three time past Roma Seven winner, beat a fierce Korea 7s, for the first time at Roma Seven (31-14). Brasil 7, the olimpic team guest team, deserved their place in the final after defeating France 7s in the semi-final (14 to 5) and before the Chile 7s (12 to 7) in the quarter finals. The final among the future bronze medal at Rio 2016 was thrilling as well as spectacular, delighting the public of the Acqua Acetosa Stadium.

The Roma Seven Plate was taken by Seven Kings of Rome, who had the best over the France 7s who were perhaps still catching their breath after their effort in a pre Olympic game against the Brasil 7s. The Roma Seven Bowl went to Seventise, for the first time at Roma Seven, after a hard-fought game against the Italy 7s. The 8th Roma Seven Ladies Cup was won by the new entry in the tournament, the national team of South Africa 7, which had a exciting final game against Kenya 7 Lioness. Rugby Roma Olimpic Club 1930 was the new winner of the over 35 tournament, beating NaMau in the final. Thus ended 2 days of challenges and tackles, of local and international teams, of speed and great competition, which began on Friday 10th June and ended with the traditional "Roma Seven Party" the unmissable closing party animated by seven DJs.

Over the years the Roma Seven has played host to the achievements of A.Pelenise (IRB Best Seven Player 2007), of DJ Forbes (IRB Best Seven Player 2008) and of the World Top Scorer Ben Gollings. It has welcomed a true legend: the Fijian Waisale Serevi, it has admired the great Ollie Phillips (IRB Best Seven Player 2009) and been moved watching the performance of players such as Cecil Afrika (IRB Best Seven Player 2011), Tomasi Cama (IRN Best Seven Player 2012) and all the other All Blacks 7 officially selected by the icon of international Rugby 7: Sir Gordon Tietjens, acclaimed in the IRB Hall of Fame since 2012. After having Chester Williams (Springboks – World Champion 1995) who took part in the Roma Seven 2011, 2012 boasted the presence of Andrea Lo Cicero, representative of the Italian national team. The year 2013 saw William Ryder, sensation of the Rugby Seven of the Fiji Islands, at the Roma Sevens for the first time.
