Intervista a  Daniel de Villiers, team manager of Stellenbosch University

1. What do you think about Roma Seven as a tournament?
Roma Sevens is one of the most enjoyable, but also one of the toughest tournaments on the Sevens calendar, due to a few factors: the Stadio de Marmi is by far the most spectacular stadium that I have ever witnessed, the competition is very strong, with a lot of strong teams coming back to Rome every year. The women are beautiful and the crowd creates a great atmosphere. Stellenbosch University loves Roma Sevens.

2. What do you expect from Rome as a city?
Rome is a good city to have a tournament in, the transport is easy and there is so much to see. The weather is great every year, and the locals know how to have a party and support the sevens.

3. How do you see Rugby Seven in the future?
Sevens is growing every year and is becoming a real world sport. The viewing numbers of the IRB Sevens Series are growing every year as more people become aware of the sport. I believe rugby players in future will specialize in either 15's or 7's rugby. We need more leagues at club level all over the world, but tournaments such as Roma Sevens is a good start.

4. What does Rugby Sevens represent for you?
Rugby Sevens for me is a great way to stay in touch with the game after having retired as a player. It does not take as much time being a sevens coach as 15's, and of course it is a beautiful sport. It highlights all the skills rugby players should have, and it is a great way to identify young talent. Players whose bodies aren't developed fully yet can easily and safely compete in sevens.

5. Which are the most important ingredients in a Rugby Seven-a-side tournament?
Teams should be on an even level, and able to compete. The crowd is the most important. Marketing and making sure people have an enjoyable experience is key to ensure the tournament grows in terms of crowd size. Organizing should run smooth, and games should start as scheduled.

6. What is it essential in a world class Rugby 7 tournament?
A Crowd is most important. Medical care for the players. Water and facilities also. A good announcer and an after party!
