Frequentata fin dall’antica età del ferro e, dal Medioevo, punto “chiave” del Tigullio orientale, Chiavari svolge ancora oggi un ruolo importante nell’economia della zona: ricca di negozi, offre numerose opportunità di shopping sotto gli ombrosi portici che la caratterizzano, sia nel suo centro storico, sia nei quartieri dell’espansione di fine ottocento, dove si trovano singolari esempi di un’edilizia revivalistica.

Chiavari, però, è anche città di tesori d’arte, di Fede, di cultura, di mare.

Ricchissime d’arte sono le sue chiese, tre delle quali sono Santuari mariani; dalla Chiesa di N.S.delle Grazie, che accoglie i bellissimi affreschi recentemente restaurati di Teramo Piaggio e del Cambiaso, si gode un panorama stupendo sul Golfo; la chiesa di N. S. dell’Olivo è impreziosita da una particolare architettura interna, ricca di marmi intarsiati; in città, infine, la Cattedrale di N.S.dell’Orto dove spiccano, entro grandi nicchie, preziose sculture lignee della grande tradizione genovese.

Da visitare, Palazzo Rocca, una antica e prestigiosa residenza dove, all’ultimo piano, si possono ammirare salotti, porcellane, una ricca quadreria, oggetti d’arredo; nell’adiacente scuderia, é ospitato il museo Storico Archeologico che conserva i reperti della celebre necropoli di Chiavari e del Castellaro di Uscio.

Well known since the iron age and the Middle Ages, holding a "key" position in the eastern Tigullian Area. Chiavari still plays an important economic role in the region. Its numerous stores encourage shopping under the shady porticoes, characterising both the old town centre and its modern districts of the nineteenth century, where you may see spectacular examples of a revivalist building style.

Chiavari is, however, also a city harbouring treasures of Art, Faith, Culture and sea. Its churches are temples of art; three of them are Sanctuaries dedicated to the Madonna. From the church of Our lady of Graces with its beautiful, recentely restored frescoes by Teramo Piaggio and Cambiaso, you may enjoy a breathtaking view of the Gulf. The church of Our Lady of Olive Tree is embellished by a peculiar interior decoration of inlaid marble. Finally, the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Vegetable Garden located in the hearth of the town, features marvellous wooden sculptures of Genoese tradition, placed in sumptuous niches.

Don’t forget to explore "Palazzo Rocca" an old and prestigious mansion where you can admire on the top floor parlours, fine porcelain objects, paintings, furniture, whereas the Historical and Archaeological Museum is lodged in the adjacent stables, also featuring exhibits of the famous necropolis of Chiavari and Castellaro di Uscio. Take a relaxing walk in the park of this mansion, landscaped as a typical "fin de siècle" garden or, you may enjoy an ice-cream in one of the numerous bars on the promenade.
 

  
Wurde bereits in der antiken Eisenzeit besucht und war ab dem Mittelalter der Mittelpunkt des östlichen Tigullio. Noch heute spielt es eine bedeutende Rolle in der Wirtschaft des Gebiets: Mit seinen vielfältigen Geschäften bietet es zahlreiche Gelegenheiten zum Shopping unter den schattigen Bogengängen, die sein Aussehen in der Altstadt und in den Ende des 19.

Jahrhunderts gebauten Vierteln prägen, wo einzigartige Beispiele eines Revival-Baustils stehen. Chiavari ist jedoch auch eine Stadt der Kunstschätze, des Glaubens, der Kultur, des Meeres. Reiche Kunstwerke enthalten seine Kirchen, von denen drei als Wallwahrtkirchen Maria geweiht sind. Von der Liebfrauenkirche delle Grazie, in der die wunderschönen kürzlich restaurierten Fresken von Teramo Piaggio und Cambiaso zu bewundern sind, hat man eine herrliche Aussicht auf den Golf.

Die Liebfrauenkirche dell’Olivo weist eine wertvolle, besondere Innenarchitektur mit eingelegten Marmorarbeiten auf. In der Kathedrale N.S. dell’Orto in der Stadt stehen in grossen Nischen wertvolle Holzskulpturen, die der antiken genuesischen Tradition entstammen.

Zu besuchen ist auf jeden Fall der Palazzo Rocca, eine antike, wertvolle Residenz, in dessen letztem Stock man die Salons, Porzellan, Gemälde und Einrichtungsgegenstände besichtigen kann. Auf keinen Fall sollte das Vergnügen eines erholsamen Spazierganges im Park der Villa, eines typischen Landschaftsgartens aus der Jahrhun-dertwende, ausgelassen werden.
