The Gulf of La Spezia
is an almost perfect anphitheateatre: the bay is also know
as the Gulf of the Poets and even in our day cntinues to attract
and ispire men of letters and writers.The village of Portovenere,
guarded by two small islands, is located to thee west; further
on is the Tramonti district, the gateway
to the five hamietsappropriately called the Cinque
Terre. The township of Lerici is located to the east
on the opposite side of the bay. Lerici boast a medieval castle
with an unforgettable view ower the bay:nearby is the headland
of Montemarcello a scenic promontory with
several attractive miniature iniets.
