Since its first edition, Traveller character generation
always favored military and business careers. I agree that
Trade is the blood of the Empire, Army, Navy and Scouts could
represent muscles and nerves, Nobility is the brain, but what
about the skeleton?
The Technician career represents the people who serve the
Imperium in roles requiring both high levels of technical
competence and a certain level of guts.
Despite the general lack of combat skills, I consider this
career to be eminently viable for PCs. Just like in the case of
Agent and Artist, you should remember that this "lifepath"
could represent many different things, depending on your EDU,
homeworld TL and the final mix of skill.
- Rules for the Technician
Career.
- Including Sappers and military Engineers.
- New Skills
- Civil and military Engineering
- Equipment
- Tools and gadgets for your technicians
As an added bonus, Peter Vialls, a
British author, kindly allowed me to add Day of Disaster, an excellent article on
rescue scenarios, originally published on the now defunct
The Last Province RPG magazine. He also sent me
four Adventure Seeds to complement
the previous article.

[An article about developing a self consistent framework for
SF technology in an RPG context]
- Disaster on Adanis
- ICE adventure module for the SpaceMaster RPG.
[PC's are sent to a world to help it recover from the
world-wide disasters that occurred after a large, previously
undetected meteor "mysteriously" crashes into the
surface.
Some of it may be easily ported to Traveller or any other SF
rpg.]
- Beanstalk
- 2300AD Module by Lester W. Smith, published by GDW [A set
of short adventures revolving around a Planet-to-Orbit
elevator built on a frontier world. A very good module.
Unfortunately the widespread use of grav vehicles in
Traveller makes the idea of Beanstalks impractical.]
- Cabin Fever
- CP2020 module published by Atlas Games.
[Party is trapped by the consequences of an ecological
disaster. Focus is mainly on the rising tensions among the
people trapped inside the disaster area, but could be still
useful.]
