In the center set up by Brother Biagio Conte, hundreds of African refugees have been welcomed and found solace, In the center, which survives on private donations and volunteers from Catholic associations in Palermo, refugees are guaranteed a bed, a hot meal and basic health care. In order to accomodate the refugees, Brother Biagio Conte illegally occupied a run-down building belonging to the Italian state, which had been abandoned for decades.
