Membership RequirementsThe membership of the ISDS is of three categories:
Members are nominated by each National Section from qualified surgeons of their country, within limits of a total number fixed by the Executive Committee. These candidates must display academic qualifications. Candidates for membership may also apply directly to the Executive Committee. Emeritus Members are surgeons over 65 years of age, who are retired from active surgical practice, who are current in their dues status and have been dues paying Members for at least 15 years. They must request a change in their membership classification. Emeritus Members are relieved of the obligation to pay dues and will not receive the Official Journal. However, Emeritus Members are entitled to the member subscription rate to receive the Official Journal. Emeritus Members do not have the right to vote. Honorary Membership will be granted to surgeons of international repute who have rendered special services to the Collegium. They will not pay any dues or subscriptions but will receive the Official Journal of the ISDS free of charge. Election to Honorary Membership shall be made upon recommendation of at least two-thirds of the Executive Committee and approval by at least two-thirds of the members present and voting at a meeting of the General Assembly. Honorary Members do not have the right to vote. The Executive Committee in special cases may nominate candidates for membership in the Collegium who may not fulfill all requirements stated above for Members. Candidates who are not approved for membership by the Executive Committee shall be automatically reconsidered by the Committee for two consecutive years, unless the application is withdrawn. If, after these two consecutive reconsiderations, the applicant is still not accepted for membership, the National Section retains the right to submit a new application to the Executive Committee for further consideration. |
