italian version

The eclipse observation has been made in Turkey near the small city of Elazig, located in the upper Firat (Euphrate) region, Eastern Anatolian province. The city, on the Anatolian plateau, 1067 m above see level, is surrounded by a complex of artificial lakes, created by dams, and by the natural lake Hazar; the presence of water in the area has a favourable influence on the climate. Good climatic conditions in August for the eclipse observation without interfering clouds are guaranteed by local weather statistics.
NE of Elazig, 200 m higher, there is Harput hill which has been chosen as observation site; geographic cohordinates measured by GPS are:

   Latitude:   38:42:06 N
   Longitude:  39:15:02 E

and are inside the 2 minutes duration of eclipse totality.

In the Elazig area the eclipse local time are as follow:
B.P.E. (Beginning of the partial eclipse): 13:12:23
B.T.E. (Beginning of the total eclipse):   14:36:14
E.T.E. (End of the total eclipse):         14:38:18
E.P.E. (End of the partial eclipse):       15:54:02
During the totality phase it was possible to observe the planet Venus.
