WII Softmod? DONE Comment and advices |
Date: 3 december 2010 Author: Arnaldo Maggiora Vergano |
Softmod WII, info about.
I did it following a very good italian guide found in this site www.hackwii.it. My WII was a "virgin" 4.3e and I used Yu Gi Ho game.
You have to pay attention to these 2 prerequisite:
• The SD card must be 2 Gb maximum size.
WII do not support 4 Gb card. To use 4 Gb card you have to use a trick that do
not work with the softmod.
• You must have a compatible USB Hard Disk. You can find lists of compatible hard disks on
the internet. You will find mine after
(short).
The softmod open your WII to many other programs without loosing warranty
(someone says).
Once you have installed the Home Brew Channel (HBC), you can
have various programs: FTP server, WEB server, Media player DivX, free games,
etc.
If you install the Home Brew Browser, and your WII is connected
to the internet, you will access a new world of programs. Unfortunally, as much
hardware connected to internet, it will be "unmanageable" and the WII user
will be able to access all kind of "Streaming content" with Media Player software
in a few click... too much few.
The only bad thing of the Softmod is that the WII Shop Channel will not work
anymore. If you try to start
the Shop Channel it will ask to do an update (DO NOT DO IT). You can
find other guide to fix this problem, but on 17 november 2010 I launch an update
check for Pymp
my Wii. I find and update Pymp My Wii and then I launch the "test".
The Test shows many new ios and Cios to download saying that one of them fix the
WII Shop Channel. I did the fix and the Wii Shop Channel is now working.
During the test, one of the important/recommended ios warn that installing it
will rotate the HBC, it didn't happen.
Useful WII Software to install on the SD:
Pymp My Wii: check and update all the IOS/Cios from internet
WiiMC: Media Player DivX, able to read many kind of video. Load
from USB and directly from "Internet"
Ftpii: Your WII became an FTP server. Useful to copy little
file directly to the
SD
CfgUsbLoader: My
favorite loader, load the backup copies from USB
Hard Disk with NTFS partition. The
loader that worked better.
Backup Launcher 0.3
Gamma WIIGator: I use it to launch DVD backup copies for games not
working on CfgUsbLoader
To create and manage ISO from
original WII DVD
