Softmod WII: How can I do and use backup copies?
We did the Softmod
We chosen the Loader
And now what to load? How to do the backup copies? What about
.ISO?
Preparing the
Hard Disk (NTSF/WBFS):
1) I formatted my
hard disk with an NTFS partition, it must be "active" and less than 500 GB.
On the partition you have to create a "wbfs" folder and copy
inside this folder your backup copies folder as created by WBFS Gui 1.0.9
used to convert ISO to
WBFS (file).
Why convert ISO to WBFS file? Because WBFS Gui,
converting, will create a folder that you can simply copy to your wbfs folder of
your HD as is and because converted files are really smaller.
2)
Formatting WBFS:
Use a loader (uLoader is OK)
to format your Hard disk,
max partition 500GB.
You can use a Loader to create your backup copies on your hard
disk, or you can use WBFS Manager 3.0
to copy, extract and manage games to/from WBFS
partition.
WBFS tests you find on the site are done
on a 8GB Usb Key (SanDisk) formatted with uLoader.
Plug your Usb Hard disk in your WII lower
Usb, start your loader and play.
Lets see step by step instruction
From DVD to backup, 2
ways:
1) Try to use a pc software (Rawdump 2.0)
2) Use the Loader
as... Writer
Rawdump:
To run Rawdump you need .NET framework 2.0 and more important a
DVD reader able to read WII disc. Many models of LG and Hitachi are ok, anycase
try your DVD reader/writer.
It is not a valid test to insert a WII DVD in your reader/writer
and check in My computer if you can access the DVD.
Insert your original WII DVD, Start Rawdump and select your DVD, now many "non
tested guide" says you will see the game name, not to me, I see the game name,
red color, only after I press "Start Dump".
Now you will have to wait about 3 hours, unfortunally time
needed is not depending on game size. When done you will find the ISO of the
game in the same folder of Rawdump.
What can I do with the ISO?
WBFS:
Copy the ISO in your WBFS
formatted HD with WBFS Manager 3.0.
NTFS: Convert the ISO to WBFS
with WBFS Gui 1.0.9 and
then copy the game folder inside the wbfs folder of your HD. (Es.
X:\wbfs\game_folder)
Loader:
To use this way you need an old WII, new WII have the
DVD reader blocked
Insert the original DVD
in your WII, run the loader and do the "install"
procedure, lets see how on 2 loaders:
CfgUsbLoader, TEST on NTFS and WBFS:
Insert the original DVD you want to transfer.
Once you have started the program press "-" (minus)
and then select "install game",
the program will show you tha game in the DVD, press A
to confirm...
unfortunally for me I receive an ERROR.
It is unable to write on NTFS.
If I do the same TEST on a 8GB Usb key
WBFS formatted all works perfectly.
When finished, if your WII is connected to the internet,
pressing "1" on the Wiimote you can download the game's cover.
(TEST done with WII Play, speed: about 100MB
copied in 45 second)
uLoader, TEST on WBFS partition:
Insert the original DVD you want to transfer.
Once you have started the program press "Home" on your Wiimote and then select
"add new game"
Wait less than 20 minutes, done.
(TESTED game: Harry Potter on USB
key)
Did you used other way to create backup copies? Let us know how, send an article on your experince and it will be published at your name.
Other info
on PC software:
What if I want to burn a WII ISO? Image Burn:
I have tried also with this software to extract the ISO from an
original WII DVD, it isn't able to read the disc, read error.
It is very good to burn the ISOs (2x
speed tested: Always OK)
WBFS Manager 3.0: really easy and
intuitive to use software. It can also extract ISO from HD WBFS formatted.
WBFS Gui 1.0.9: The useful functions:
Batch convert, to convert more than one ISO at a time, and the possibility to
configure a different folder for the converted WBFS file NEVER worked.
I simply select the ISO to convert and start the convertion. When done I copy
the folder's game, created in the same starting folder, in the wbfs folder of my
HD
