What is the Association?

The Association of Argentine residents in Emilia Romagna was founded in Bologna in 1989. It is one of the promoting members of the UNAAI (the National Union of Argentine associations in Italy), formed in 1990. The Association proposes the organization of the Argentine community as a whole, its scope is to present to the public institutions the inquiries or suggestions that could lead to the improvement of the material and spiritual situation of Argentine residents. The Association considers indispensable the friendship and mutual knowledge among people from different nations. The Association works for obtaining the accommodation of all foreigners in the Italian society, with no distinction to their nationality, religion, ideology or color of skin. Anyone agreeing with the objectives mentioned in the Statute can join the Association, independently of nationality, race or religion.

It is a well established tradition at the Association to give a warm welcoming to the residents of other Latin American nationalities, particularly since because of their small number or recent arrival they don't have their own association. In fact, many citizens from Latin American countries other than Argentina participate in the Association activities.

Annual "Asado" (barbecue) of the Association. It is held the closest Sunday to the 25th of May and attracts many people, Argentine and Italian. People eat asado (the traditional Argentine barbecue), dance tango and drink mate (an infusion made with green leaves). At night, songs accompanied by guitar or even a rock group of children of Argentine families. The main activity is, however, to chat in Spanish.

Annual dinner on December. It gets cold in Italy; fog and snow are common in Bologna. The December dinner is always made in a restaurant. We have families, old people and persons who spend their holidays alone because their families are far away.

Argentine Association stand. There we exhibit movies about Argentina, hypertexts and photography; talks are also organized. Products from Argentina are sold (alfajores, marmalades, yerba mate, etc.) and the money is used for the financing of activities.
