History

Elias Indura is the only son of a middle-rank police officer from Ruie, an Industrial world in the Regina Subsector.
His family lived in what can be considered a poor (and relatively rough) neighborhood, so Elias had to learn how to defend himself quite early. His life was in no actual danger, but being bullied around by older boys was not a good way to spend your free time, so, with the help of his father, Elias joined a local martial art school. He soon proved to be a natural at self defense, and even if he had some congenital health problems (which are reflected in his average Endurance stat) he soon became a dedicated and competent martial artist.
Fortunately, and thanks to his family's teaching, he never used his talents without a good cause, and remained faithful to the strong moral beliefs of his father.
After school he joined the army, but given his low endurance he was transferred to a support role after basic training.
He already had some minimal first aid knowledge from the long hours at the gym, so he choosed to join the Medical Corps.
After the advanced training he was assigned to an Army garrison on Inthe. The unit which Elias served in was often involved in minor counter-guerrilla operations against Ine-Givar terrorists and in three different occasions was used for riot control during strikes crisis in the poor districts of the capital.
Elias didn't like at all the almost casual use of force against civilians and resigned after two terms.
After his resignment he did a lot of different short term contracts on a variety of different planets. He worked as a paramedic, bodyguard, martial arts instructor, security on mega-corps liners, steward on smaller ships, and even in the infirmaries of prisons and asylums. These various experiences have somewhat changed his outlook on life, and he is less adamant about breaking the law. What he can't condone is the indiscriminate use of violence: he has seen plenty of dead people and grievous injuries in his days with the Army, and would like not to add to this.
He is willing to join any group of adventurers and can provide medical help and muscle (in a mostly defensive role!) to any party which can meet his requirements of morality and self-restraint.

Personality

Elias is very good with people. He is calm, confident and can usually find the right way to talk to others. He is very honest and can easily win other people's trust. When contacted for a job he always explains clearly that he does not approve the use of unnecessary violence. He is quite firm about this, and always tries to resolve any conflict by negotiate. If this fails, he will try to convince the opponent party that further opposition will probably cause some violent confrontation, and will happily describe all the gruesome consequences that this will bring, even in case of a victory. Non-lethal violence is his next option, and only desperate situations will force him to use lethal force.
He does not consider himself a leader, but will always protest violently if his current employers propose a plan which does not comply with his idea of "justified use of violence", and will always try to convince them to modify the original plan. If openly confronted about this (people sometimes believe that he is just scared) he usually challenges the other to an hand to hand fight in order to define who knows more about violence, and how it should be applied.
Elias likes to remain fit, and follows a strict regimen (he only drinks mild intoxicants like beer, and always in limited quantities, does not smoke and don't use drugs), but does not try to force the same on others.
He is quite friendly but tends to spend a lot of time alone, mostly training or listening to music, which he likes a lot. He never had any stable relationship, but he is thinking about settling down on some planet and create his own P.I. Agency or something similar.

Appearance

Elias is tall, about two meters and lean. He has dark eyes and keeps his head shaved, an old habit he gained in his first dojo.
He has various scars on his torso and arms. He usually wears casual or ex-military dress.
He rarely travels around without his medkit. He has an Imperial Licence for carrying a gun, but he usually prefer a non-lethal weapon like Blur or a Thud-gun.

Referee Notes

As explained in the notes, Elias can be a good companion for the party, and help patching up the PCs after a fight. He is very good with his bare hands, and not completely useless in a firefight, too.
All this has a price... he will never let them use violence when there is the slightest chance of obtaining the same results with diplomacy or other means.
Elias will not associate himself with bloodthirsty marauders, so if your PCs reputation is extremely bad he will never accept to work with them (he could cure them in an emergency, anyway...). He is not strongly motivated by greed, so he will probably accept "A-Team" contracts more happily than treasure hunts or commercial missions.
If the PC propose him some unpalatable job ("...and then we mine the complex so no-one will live to tell the truth...") he will simply refuse to do it, but will not betray them. Your PCs perhaps will not believe it, and some more problems will ensue.
Indura may act as a Patron in a rescue scenario, or better yet, as a link to a Patron who wants someone rescued, and asks him to put together a suitable party.
While Elias stays with the PCs they can forget about torture or cold blood murder. He is not above making people believe that they will be killed if the don't talk, or using drugs, but any kind of real torture is out of discussion.
After a fight, Elias usually patches up his associates and then, if at all possible, even the (surviving) opponents. He has no particular like or dislike for aliens.
A note about this Character

Elias Indura was generated as a PC for a short lived Jovian Chronicles campaign. The personality and motivation of this character were inspired by the articles written by Ellis Amdur for the martial arts magazine Aikido Journal.
These articles often present interesting insights on the role of the Martial Artist in the modern society, and I deliberately choose to try applying his ideas in a RPG: even if heavily fictionalized, mr.Amdur may be considered as a sort of "meta-source" for this character. When I contacted him about this, Mr Amdur was kind enough to check out my description of the PC and allowed me to cite his name and work in this page.
