Tools

Second Level applications

The usual IT applications deal with data, single or aggregated, in input and output.

Migra S.E., whereas, has an high experience in tools, applications and projects that deal  with just applications in input and output, or even with delimited parts of them.

So Migra says that usual applications could be see as "first-level" applications, while his instruments could be called "Second-Level Applications"

Choice of the right tool

"If the only tool you have is a hammer,
then you tend to see every problem as a nail
."

Migra doesn't want to impose forced solutions to the Customer: Migra is fully aware that the "absolute best" (or "one-fit-all") solution does not exist, but always tries to find the right solution (or, better, the "set of solutions") for Customer's need.

Migra has deep experiences in many "Second-Level" tools and applications:

  • Proprietary Tools (developed and owned by Migra S.E.)
  • Tools supplied to Migra or to Customer by qualified Partners
  • Services supplied by Migra's foreign Partners, but whose relationships with Customers are dealed by Migra itself

The decision about the tools to be adopted is taken toghether, between Customer and Migra, usually adopting the following standards:

  • High integration with other tools used by Customer
  • Migra's knowledge in any tools choosen by Customer
  • Tools already owned by Customers
  • Tools forced by forced by any agreement between Customer and third parts
  • Customizability of any choosen tool

Database Conversions

Migrations of databases with different format

The evolution of database technology is really fast and very often a conversion between different format is a consequence of an upsizing or downsizing.

Migra could organize and manage all the tasks that bring data from a database to a different one.

Specific experiences and tools cover the IBM Mainframe world (e.g. from DL/1 to DB/2, or Adabas to DB/2), but also other paths are covered, even between different hw/sw platforms.

Reorganization of Database format or data lay-out

Other services cover the modifications inside a database, due to a even a large modification of one or more applications; the Y2K and Euro projects were good examples of this kind of projects.

Migra is able to detect, analyze and then modify all involved variables, fields, data, and databases that depend on specific planned changes of applications.

It means Migra is totally able to lead projects o give services for:

  • Change of record-layout (field resizing, reorganizing, ...)
  • Change of data format (binary, packed, alfanum., prefixed/suffixed, ...)

Data Reclaim

Migra is able, using its tools and methodology, to reclaim specific data and/or entire databases.

For example, databases with register of births, marriages, deaths and addressess could be reclaimed with up-to-date informations and wrong links.
